Q-Will people be able to tell that I am wearing extensions?
If you go from very short hair to very long hair than obviously the people closest to you will be able to tell, anyone that has never met you will not be able to tell with proper care and styling.
Q-I have very short hair can I get extensions?
If your hair is at least 1-2 inches long, you can get strand-by-strand extensions. Hair must be approximately 3” long for weft-locs.
Q-How long will it take to add extensions to my hair?
Micro-Locs take 4-6 hours, Weft-locs takes 2- 3 hours; Hours may vary on thick or thin hair and what you are having done. Time estimates above are for full applications. Partial applications (not a full head) take much less time.
Q-Can I wash & style my hair?
Yes you can, it is 100% human hair so you can do everything that you normally do to style your hair. Some temporary methods may require you not to shampoo your hair. Also, you must be comfortable with going a few days to a week without washing your hair; at least reduce washings to every other-day or every three days to extend the life of your extensions. The more you wash your extensions, the looser they may get, as well as the more the colors will fade in the extension hair. Most extension hair is dyed, so washing slowly removes color. Of course, you can also dye your extension hair while wearing it, just as you would color your own hair, but NO BLEACH on the extension hair; it causes damage.
Q-How long will my extensions last?
It is different for each head, ethnic hair, curly hair, and hair with texture tends to last longest. The hair strands are not smooth and tend to hold the extension better. Strand-by-strand methods may last up to 3 months, no matter what you have heard or been told your hair matts & dreads at this time and it needs to be combed out & redone; HOWEVER, Strand-by-Strand Micro-locs can remain in the hair and be continually cycled when properly cared for & maintained every 6 weeks + tightened every three month (or as needed). Micro-locs can be worn continuously and interchanged; without ever needing to be completely removed.
Q-Can I continue to play sports with my extensions?
You can wash and style extension as you would your own hair (be a little gentler). Extensive water exposure will loosen attachment so dry carefully afterwards. If you swim a lot, you should wear a swim cap.
Q-Can I still relax and perm my hair?
Yes, with most strand by strand methods; retouches only.
Q- My hair has highlights in-Can you match them? Can I continue to get my highlights done?
A -This one is easy- I tend to use color that blends with hair, especially with light browns and blondes-the very top of your hair will not have extensions attached, so we generally match the color you have at the nape of your neck; I can also match the streaks if you like, using Individuals (micro-locs). Adding low/hi-lihghts is only $3/extension when added to your weft-loc extensions. Your colorist simply works around the extensions to re-color.
Q- Will extensions ruin my hair?
A -This is the biggest concern from my clients. The method I offer is a “no damage” method. There is no heat or glue applied to your hair; just tiny crimps that hold the extensions on. Most damage happens when clients don't take off extensions properly, or an inexperienced/experienced Stylist doesn't take care in the removal process. If you remove your own extension, you are almost guaranteed to damage your hair; your inexperience and lack of proper removal methods (which is very fast; not five hours of torture in front of a mirror taking them out yourself!! It’s not worth it! With that said; if you cannot afford to remove extensions, you should not put them in. However, my goal is to preserve your hair and show you how growing out your hair with locs is the safest, most natural extensions method available. Full removal is usually not necessary until as long as one year (never for those that decide to grow out their locs and keep them as permanent extensions, but the hair above will eventually “loc” up almost like dread-locs), so a tightening is needed every three months to clear the tangling hair and raise the extensions for your new hair growth. Micro-loc extensions are considered a natural, safe, permanent extensions; methods as this have been used in dreadlock styles for years; modern innovation led this method to a celebrity head near you. No glue, no heat, no damage (with proper care, removal, and maintenance), no braids, no wefts (if you choose), no tracks, no itch!
Q- Do you use synthetic or human hair? Do you provide the hair?
A- Would you really want someone else to pick your hair for you? Most women dream of a specific hair; it is necessary that you take the time to pick THE hair that you want on your head; this method is considered “permanent”. The hair you choose will be on your head for a long period of time; it’s your hair. You can save the hair and use it for years. That’s the amazing thing about this system; it’s like wearing a very nice wig, but without the “wig” look or feel! Your hair is out; there isn’t a net or covering on you hair! This is YOUR hair. I highly recommend 100% human hair, preferably Remy or Cuticle Hair. The most important thing (to get the best life out of your extensions) is to buy Remi/Remy or Cuticle hair. Ask for Cuticle Hair; that mean the cuticle is preserved in its natural direction. If you don’t buy cuticle hair; the cuticles will begin to lift on the hairs; your extension hair will be snarled and tangled, which when you pull through your hair with fingers, comb, or even brush, you will lose extensions. Good extensions start with good hair; don’t cheat your self. You can get most cuticle hair for $39 - $89 per package (depending on length). Extensions are Not cheap; that’s why mostly wealthy women & celebrities wear them. You are getting a Great Discount on a very expensive, advanced technique; please have that much appreciation for your investment in your hair. Women tell me everyday how they paid $2,000 - $2500 for their extensions; for the same method(s). This is a Hair System, not a Hair Style; it takes some time to get used to, but once you get the hang of it, you will wonder how you ever lived without it!
Q-How long you've been doing this?
A- I have been applying extensions on my own hair for over 7 years (I was only 14 when I started). I tried weaves and braids; always leaving the salon in tears, because the stylists would never take the time to really find out what I wanted and make certain I was happy with what they were doing. They were always in a hurry to get me out of their chair; to get to the next customer, leaving me with an expensive and unnatural looking “do’ that I actually DECREASED my self-confidence. I felt uncomfortable getting extensions in a salon. Many times I went home and had to alter the hair to make it look natural. Having to constantly fix stylists’ extensions, I became very good at making natural looking-styles and even developed an inter-locking technique with human hair that I taught many stylists. I started receiving inquiries about my hair and requests by others to do their hair; then referrals by word-of-mouth; by age 16, I was applying extensions to other women’ hair- by referral only. My techniques are always geared towards a natural look and feel; I am constantly improving them.
Q Are you a licensed Cosmetologist? Can you cut my extensions?
A- Florida law does not require Extensionists to be licensed cosmetologists, as hair extensions are not taught in the cosmetology curriculum. However, a license is needed to cut, color, and wash hair. With that said; I can trim your extensions to the length you want, just not your own hair. I have had a "weft" braided & sewed years; I am ready for something new! How can micro-loc extensions improve my hair extension experience?
I, myself have worn weaves for . I HATED them, but loved the look. My hair was sewn to my head in a big knot; I would sometimes take it out just to be certain my hair was okay! With this system, your hair is always out; not braided, not bonded. You can still COLOR and RELAX (touch up’s only) your hair with your extensions still attached! I LOVE this system; it is very natural and a great way to grow out your hair. You have to care for it more than your natural hair, because it is an application; the benefits far exceed the woes; at least for me.
